Assistant Engineer (Transportation)
The Assistant Engineer (Transportation) is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy machinery, including mobile cranes, towmaster units, trailers, cherry pickers, and forklifts, in accordance with authorized certifications. The role involves executing assigned tasks based on direct instructions from Engineers, Supervisors, and the Head of Workshop, while strictly adhering to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) requirements at all times.
Responsibilities:
- Drive and operate heavy machineries under MMS which includes mobile crane, towmaster, trailer, cherry picker and forklift across all RBN vessels within the Naval Base.
- Provide transportation services within Naval Base as directed by Ship Managers or supervisors
- Regular inspections on heavy machineries when not in use to ensure they are safe to use and to inform supervisor or Head of Workshop should necessary repairs are required.
- Perform pre-operation and post-operation checklists on all heavy machineries under MMS.
- Responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations and developing measures to assure personnel and heavy machineries’ safety.
- Perform, but not limited to, rigging and banksman as secondary duties within Shipyard Services when required within certification
Requirements:
- Minimum of National Diploma or equivalent
- Possess valid Driving License Class 5
- Possess valid Mobile Crane Operator Certificate
- Possess valid Forklift Operator License
- Must be of Brunei citizen or permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam

Engineer (GRP)
The Engineer in the Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) Workshop is responsible for planning, supervising, and executing repair, maintenance, and modification works on Fleet B boats, crafts and Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) vessels. The role ensures all GRP repair activities are carried out to marine safety, quality, and classification standards, while coordinating manpower, materials, and workshop resources effectively.
Responsibilities:
- Technical Oversight
Supervise GRP repair and maintenance on boats and crafts, including assessing damages such as cracks, osmosis, and delamination. Develop repair methods for hulls, decks, and fittings, and ensure proper use of resins, gel coats, and composite materials. Manage daily workshop tasks and update ERP records for repairs, materials, labour hours, and schedules. - Quality & Safety Control
Ensure all workmanship meets marine standards, class rules, and OEM requirements. Conduct inspections and testing of completed GRP works. Enforce safety practices, including proper PPE and safe handling of chemicals and materials. - Planning & Coordination
Prepare schedules, material lists, and manpower allocation. Coordinate with naval architects, supervisors, painters, and mechanical/electrical workshops. Liaise with clients, ship crews, and inspection authorities on progress and requirements. - Documentation & Reporting
Prepare inspection reports, repair recommendations, and completion documentation. Maintain accurate records of material usage, costs, and timelines. Assist in preparing JHAs and method statements - Team Leadership & Improvement
Guide and train subordinates on GRP repair techniques and new technologies. Mentor junior staff and support skill development. Recommend process improvements, evaluate new materials/tools, and support initiatives for improved durability and eco-friendly GRP solutions.
Requirements:
- Hands-on experience in GRP (fiberglass) boat construction, repair, and maintenance.
- Skilled in RHIB/RIB structural and collar repairs, including airtightness testing, patching, and valve servicing.
- Experienced in leading GRP technicians, laminators, and painters in project or supervisory roles.
- Familiar with hybrid repairs involving GRP and steel, aluminum, or wood structures.
- Knowledgeable in fiberglass materials, resin systems, lamination processes, and finishing techniques.
- Aware of classification society requirements and IMO/ISO standards for GRP structures.
- Able to plan and coordinate GRP repair schedules, materials, and manpower to meet project deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, proactive mindset, and capable of motivating and guiding team members.

Engineer (Mechanical)
Manage and perform the maintenance of mechanical systems of Shiplift and Syncrolift. Lead and train subordinates to produce quality and maximum efficiency in work done by adapting correct techniques and usageof tools and equipment. Assist in Trial, Investigation, Inspection and System Operation Check whenever required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and perform maintenances of mechanical systems of Syncrolift/Shiplift such as wire rope, lower and upper sheave bearings, trestle, cradle, capstan, Bogies.
- Schedule and manage preventive maintenance for Syncrolift/Shiplift and their respective transfer systems, such as greasing wire ropes and lower and upper sheave bearings
- Capable to select and prepare which type of grease is used for wire ropes, upper and lower sheave, cradle’s roller, capstan.
- Lead and conduct functionality tests on Hydraulic Power Pack motor, control systems of Syncrolift/Shiplift and Bogies
- Conduct System Operation Check for Syncrolift/Shiplift either as a routine or before docking/undocking operation.
- Lead and operate Bogies and the movement of trestle/cradle during the docking/undocking operation.
- Seek assistance from Dockyard Coordinator for any shortcomings which may affect efficiency of the section and to propose solutions for any problems
- Responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situations and developing measures to assure personnel safety, such as risks and hazards during the changing of wire ropes, lower and upper sheave bearings
- Perform secondary duties within Shipyard Services when required i.e. support electrical maintenance, depth measurements and mooring line maneuvering during docking/undocking operation of RBN vessels
Requirements:
- Minimum of HND in Mechanical Engineering or higher with a working experience of at least 5 years in a similar environment
- Proven ability to work with minimum supervision, under pressure and capable of multitasking.
- Possess a high level of technical knowledge and personal initiative.
- Good communication with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Willing to work outside of working hours if required.
- Able to work in various environments such as confined space, heat and height.

Engineer (Mechatronic)
Accountable to the Head of Mechatronic Workshop for all work carried out by their section and for the standard and timely completion of designated work, both programmed and un-programmed, undertaken by their section and for producing accurate records of periodic Mechatronic Equipment / Component tests and trials.
Responsibilities:
- To supervise and carry out the maintenance and repair of Mechatronic equipment and systems in accordance with maintenance manuals and procedures both on board RBN units and in base facilities.
- Ensure the correct application of engineering standard to the equipment in his charge.
- To monitor Mechatronic system and equipment trials and record results.
- To supervise and carry out maintenance tasks, tests and inspections
- Report and responsible to Mechatronic Workshop in charge, any task that is given to him and communicate it to Engineer and Assistant Engineer.
- Identify and update any related Mechatronic Equipment which needs attention for any due action.
- Responsible for the demand for any related Mechatronic spare part.
- Schedule & maintenance future task with the approval of Mechatronic Workshop in charge.
- To identify and record any Non-conformity within the Quality System and take the necessary measures, through the designated channels, to prevent a re-occurrence of any Non-conformity.
- To observe the current MMS Health and Safety instructions.
- To impart knowledge and expertise and co-ordinate continuation training and specialist training to personnel of the department.
- To assist with the training of Trainee and Assistant Engineers as required.
Requirements:
- Degree in Control and Automation Engineering or Electrical and Electronics Engineering or a related technical discipline and fewer than five years of experience
- Proven ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team while also being to multi-task, work independently and possess a high level of personal initiative.
- Conversant with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS)
- Process Mechatronic knowledge and background. He/She must have a good communications and information technology skill.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Willing to be placed in any part and work anytime if needed.
- Must be of Bruneian Citizenship or Permanent Resident of Brunei Darussalam
